Before, during, and after the American War for Independence the Green Dragon Tavern was a favorite meeting place of the Sons of Liberty, Boston Committee of Correspondence, and the North End Caucus, catalyst groups for colonial patriots.  From within these walls the original Boston Tea Party was planned, Paul Revere’s ride was commissioned, and, after the War, resolutions were made urging the drafting of a federal constitution.  These meetings were critical in bringing about the great experiment in freedom called the United States of America.

The Green Dragon Tavern

Tonight at Eastgate Starbucks was like a throwback to the days of the Founding Fathers.  Over the course of one hour Clermont County patriots dropped in to take action and literally sign their name to the cause of freedom.  I will have to admit that for all of the marketing hype that I am typically associate Starbucks with, the atmosphere or “ambiance” was very conducive to the feeling like I was stepping back in to the 1700′s with the dimly lit room bustling with the controlled energy of purposeful patriotism.

Every once and a while, a member of the Clermont County Tea Party will bring various petitions that can be signed to bring voting initiatives onto to the ballot.  I only had the opportunity to hang around for about fifteen minutes, but it was time well spent signing the ballot initiative, talking people whose political knowledge goes beyond knowing that the national capital is located in Washington D.C., and observing the swath of fellow concerned citizens.

Sometimes we can feel like it is just Glenn Beck and ourselves fighting against tyranny (some of us prefer to be Lone Ranger or those crazy people who summit Mt. Everest without oxygen).  I personally find it encouraging when I am able to (however briefly) see that other people in my area are invested in the future of our country.

Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.vBut woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. (Ecc. 4:9-10)

So next time a ballot initiative comes up, we would enjoy seeing you stop by, pick up some tea or coffee, take your citizenship to the next level, and meet some fellow patriots.
