It is all for the betterment of society.  The greater good.  Social justice.

Don’t let any of the above phrases or variations of those phrases tempt you into giving up even an inch of your freedom.  The “greater good” is bad for all.  By giving up freedom for safety, you get neither.  When citizens of the United States begin to give up their Constitutional freedoms for the “safety”, “regulation” or something new, they take one step, skip, jump, toward a tyrannical government.  By giving up the responsibility to take care of ourselves with COMMON SENSE for a regulation that the government now watches over, we become a “Nanny State”.  We become subservient to the people we put into office.

The government can not level the playing field for everyone, self-determination is the only thing that takes a person from the back of the pack to the front of the pack.  Jefferson wrote:

If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors fo the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy.

In other words, the way to become happy is not by the hand of another, but by the hard work and sweat of ones brow.  We can not become a “welfare state” where government regulations and laws take care of everyone from the day they are born until the day they die.  If life was like that, who would go out and do anything for themselves?  I contend that we would become couch potatoes.  Some of you will say, “No! I would go out and do this and that because I am a hard-working person!”  I would reply, “Yes, that may be true, but does your effort benefit just you?  If so, that’s not for the greater good.  You are no longer in step with the system, thus you are subject to punishment.”

Yeah, never thought about that did you?  By creating a greater good, those who do more than the bar are now outcast and thus free to be punished by the “Nanny State”.

Now, along with the “Nanny State”, aka collectivism, comes taxation and deficit spending.  For example, Cap and Trade.  This is taxation of the carbon footprint the companies are going to create during the year so that the government can equalize the “carbon” with green energy programs.  WHAT!?  Why would anyone buy into a program like that?  The betterment of the community.  Tax the producers so that their production doesn’t harm the environment everyone else lives in.  Other examples would be stimulus bills or QE1, QE2, Progressive tax.  All meant to bring the top down and the bottom up, destroying those who achieve to pick up those who refuse to achieve or refuse to do anything at all, all in the name of “fairness”.

It’s ridiculous that America has gone from CUTH to PTP (Praising the Pathetic).  It seems that in our society, those who achieve the least are raised on and above the shoulder of those who achieve the most.  Today’s society honors the “lower class man”, labeling him a victim that needs justice from those who have more.  Our societies jealousy has gone from working to achieve as much as others have to, taking away till others are where we are.

To put it bluntly, we have become a lazy and dishonorable people.  Those who succeed the most are often those who risked the most.  Now, our “Nanny State” gimme gimme attitude has begun to make the millionaires look like the devil whom we should take everything from because they, for some reason, don’t deserve the bounty of their labor.

Today our society is looking more and more like what Jefferson described in 1865,

The Utopian schemes of leveling (redistribution of wealth and property) and a community of goods (central ownership of all things made, therefore giving no one the honor of saying, “This is mine, I created this”), are a visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the Crown (Central government).  [These ideas] are arbitrary, despotic, and in our government, unconstitutional.

He pretty much lays it out flat saying that any means of “leveling the playing field” that are outside of the Constitution, are in fact illegal.  So that would eliminate things such as, the EPA, Acorn, NAACP, affirmative action, or anything that gives an advantage to one group while taking something away from another.

One could even go so far as to say that the debt, currently over 14 trillion, is unconstitutional because it disadvantages and tears down the future of America.  I’m just saying.  What would be the solution though?  Honestly… not another regulation, law, QE3…QE3455363, stimulus, subsidy, credit, public jobs, or more politicians.  What would fix the current situation is freedom. That’s it, let people be responsible for their own futures, don’t guarantee a pension, don’t guarantee a retirement, don’t guarantee anything except for the fact that tomorrow you will be just as free, if not freer, than you were today.

Let self-determination create new things, let the free market level the playing field within business, let the American people be a proud nation that answers to no one, especially let them never answer to the politicians that speak of doing something for the greater good.  We as Americans are great, always have been and hopefully always will be.
